POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Senior Classification and Compensations Analyst (SCCA) reports directly to the Interim Director of Classification and Compensation. The SCCA will assist in the development, implementation, execution and communication of the compensation program to the campus community; will educate the campus community through consultations and training sessions.  Conduct market analysis, research trends and compensation initiatives across relevant industry in order to provide determine best practices.  The SCCA will conduct analysis of jobs and salaries in order to evaluate internal equity, external competitiveness, as well as legal compliance of the University's pay practices. The Senior Classification and Compensation Analyst will respond to compensation inquiries, create effective business partnerships, and assists increase employee satisfaction through our well-executed compensation program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION 

 

 

Classification and Compensation

  • Utilizes job analysis techniques, internal and external equity analyses, market, and salary surveys to determine the target hiring salaries for staff and management positions for SFSU. 
  • Conducts large-scale market studies in order to create cost-effective solutions and presents proposals to department management.   
  • Completes and submits salary surveys.
  • Reviews salary surveys and other market data to determine competitiveness both internally and externally. 
  • Reviews jobs for strategic management reorganizations and projects.
  • Researches situations as they arise related to aspects of compensation to provide clarity for resolution in consideration of Collective Bargaining Agreement BA provisions, historical practices, similar situations, etc.
  • Processes requests for submission regarding Bonuses, Stipends, In Range Progressions (IRP), Reclassifications and In-classifications within specified timeline per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. 
  • Reviews positions to ensure appropriate classification. Based on position-specific information, determines if an existing description can be used for the classification.
  • Reviews employees’ request for classification review and makes recommendations. This includes reviewing position description, conferring with managers and employees, evaluating jobs and preparing written reports on findings. Communicates with stakeholders regarding the result of compensation recommendations.
  • Prepares salary increases and adjustments.
  • Conducts internal and external equity analyses. 
  • Reviews and recommends changes to compensation policies and procedures.
  • Improves on processes automation for compensation administrative tasks.
  • Writes position descriptions and maintains database of all position descriptions.
  • Reviews position descriptions received from departments to ensure they are written accurately within the appropriate classification.

Program Administration

  • Works with HRIS to ensure updates regarding compensation related HR data in the system of record.
  • Maintains database of all submissions to the Classification and Compensation Unit.
  • Develops and documents procedures to streamline processes and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Leads Compensation team and projects.
  • Assisst appropriate administrator with assigning work to the team. 

Consultations

Consult with AVPs, Deans, Department Chairs, and others in the department and throughout the campus community to:

  • Provides advice to management regarding pay decisions and compensation guideline interpretation.
  • Recommends best practices and approaches in meeting department business needs.
  • Educates the campus community on the University’s compensation program.
  • Assists with strategic management reorganizations.

Other Duties as Assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management or equivalent degree with a minimum two years of progressive experience in Compensation and/or Human Resources or three to five years of progressive experience in Compensation and/or Human Resources or related field in lieu of degree.
  • High level of agility and sense of urgency in dealing with clients and executives.
  • Must be client-service focused and able to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees and managers in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, a high capacity to effectively problem-solve with a sense of urgency while prioritizing and meeting deadlines; ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Access, and HRIS systems.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to present and facilitate.
  • Knowledge of California and Federal laws/regulations.

Desired

  • CAC, CCP or PHR Certification
  • Experience in and knowledge of administration of employment policies in an institution of higher education 
  • Knowledge working within the California State University System
  • HRIS data management and ability to create a variety of reports.
  • Experience with collective bargaining agreement interpretation and implementation
