The role is designed to accelerate the development and implementation of talent management strategies aligned to the mission and goals of Resource Development (RD) and Alumni Association (AA). The Senior HR Business Partner will play a highly visible role in partnering with senior leaders in RD and AA with a focus on employee relations, engagement, performance management and development, diversity and inclusion, and other pertinent areas of human resources for the purpose of building and developing a high-performing and engaged workforce.

 This individual contributes to the development of training and learning opportunities for staff development, serves as a resource for policies and procedures, contributes to strategic decision-making, and represents the department on MIT teams and committees as relevant. Works with MIT Central Human Resources to collaborate on performance management, compensation, employee development, and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Additionally, works closely with the finance and operations team to review and forecast salary budgets for departmental salaries.

 Characteristic Duties

  • Builds collaborative relationships and serves as an advisor with management and colleagues to identify HR-STM needs and work collaboratively to implement ideas and strategies.
  • Oversees strategic Talent Acquisition program for Resource Development and Alumni Association including; attracting top talent, Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) reporting, and all compensation related activities to ensure improved talent attraction in achieving business goals.
  • Responsible for the quality of all performance reviews for all departments providing thoughtful feedback, building motivation, inspiring performance excellence, assessing professional development needs and managing any corrective action issues, including termination.
  • Coaches business leaders to set aligned and meaningful goals for teams and individuals and deliver honest and fair feedback to enable and reward high performance.
  • Leads initiatives to increase staff engagement and recognition including data gathering and analysis, establishing priorities, and working with management teams to implement changes.
  • Coaches and counsel employees and managers regarding employee relations issues; manage employee relations cases, investigations, and guide conflict resolution.
  • Contributes to the development of the HR & Strategic Talent Management strategic plan and makes short and long-term recommendations for use of resources for the alignment and integration of the objectives of all the functional units of the Resource Development and Alumni Association in regards to human resources.
  • Regularly provides HR dashboard of applicable metrics.
  • Conducts presentations and trainings, as needed.
  • Provides expert guidance and leadership during changes in organizational processes, structure, and priorities.
  • Ensures the department is in compliance with applicable MIT policies and procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Plays a leadership role in ensuring a diverse workforce and is responsible for generating ideas to create opportunities to raise awareness about diversity and inclusion matters and ensures managers have appropriate resources and training.
  • Proposes and leads initiatives such as competency modeling, performance systems roll out, etc.
  • Interprets and administers employee FMLA leaves and communicates with employee, manager, and MIT Central HR to ensure adherence to applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Leads or serves on various MIT, departmental and/or team level projects and committees, as appropriate.
  • Remains up to date on industry trends and best practices and performs other related duties as requested.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive HR with an emphasis on generalist and business partner roles required.
  • Minimum two years of management experience required.
  • Previous experience exerting strong influence on key constituents while acting as a trusted advisor and coach.
  • Able to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Actively facilitates and engages business partners, HR peers, and employees to develop best ideas and solutions.
  • Takes initiative, and ensures alignment and transparency with leader, team, and/or business partner.
  • The ability to apply strong systems thinking skills to HR programs and practices, as well as diagnosis and intervention.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business and HR acumen, including strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze data and communicate effectively with a customer-service focus. Experience with database systems and advanced skills in creating documents and maintaining data in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint desired.
  • Degree in human resources, psychology, or business management desired.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM SCP certification preferred.
