Position Description:

The Corporate Human Resources Business Partner will serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor on all human resource needs to USG’s Finance and IT organizations.   This position will work closely with multiple levels of employees and management ranging from entry level professional to executive level leaders. As a strategic business partner, the incumbent provides thought leadership on talent implications of the business strategy and initiatives. Provides counsel to the designated leadership team on employee relations and human resource matters. Coordinates closely with USG’s HR Centers of Expertise (CoE’s) and other human resource business partners to ensure a consistent approach across business units, aligned to other business areas when appropriate.  

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Business Partner

  • Provide proactive consultation and input to functional leaders on issues where human resources expertise can improve business results.
  • Work closely with functional and HR leaders to facilitate organizational change initiatives and put strategies into place to improve effectiveness.

Talent Management

  • Assist with the development and execution of talent management and retention strategies to support employee engagement for the business in partnership with the Talent Management CoE by assessing training needs, guiding leaders through talent reviews and the succession planning process, and coaching managers on how to be more effective developers of people.
  • Works with business leaders on effective workforce planning and helps implement action plans.
  • Meets regularly with business leaders to understand business plans, and diagnose when training and development opportunities exist
  • Working with appropriate CoE’s, creates development plans for broad groups or individual employees
  • Coaches managers on critical competencies, such as effective leadership skills  
  • Works with managers to create functional diversity and inclusion strategy and facilitates initiatives.


 Employee Relations

  • In partnership with the Employee Relations CoE, assists leaders with development of employee relations programs and resolving issues.
  • Ensures that USG policies and procedures are adhered to and applied in a consistent manner.
  • Works closely with managers to interpret employee engagement survey results, identify engagement opportunities, create a plan to resolve and help execute and monitor established plans.
  • Assists with investigations into significant allegations of employee misconduct


Total Rewards

  • Works closely with management and the appropriate CoE’s on the creation of total reward plans to drive business results
  • Helps to implement plans, ensuring that employees understand how performance impacts pay

Provides critical data and feedback to CoE’s on plan design and local implementation

  • Ability to manage and control expenditures within agreed budget
  • Calibrate closely with other HR Business Partners to ensure continuity of advice and counsel provided to leaders, along with HR programs and policies
  • Willing to travel 15%



  • Experience with Oracle HRIS, Cornerstone on Demand, Taleo, Visier, and other HR platforms helpful


Education and Related Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years HR generalist experience
  • Demonstrated experience as a trusted business advisor
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
