The Role:
SQZ is looking for an experienced and innovative Sr. Manager/Associate Director (HR Business Partner) to join our highly collaborative Culture & People Team. As a Sr. Manager/Associate Director you will report directly to the Head of Culture & People and be responsible for a variety of culture and people related initiatives. The primary responsibilities of this role will span employee relations, training and career development, organizational change management, and employee engagement. Applicants must be self-starters, excited about the opportunity to operate in a multi-faceted HR function within a growing, fast-paced company. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Partner directly with leadership and managers on talent development, employee engagement, organizational design, and change management. 
  • Utilize understanding of business strategic goals and key business drivers to define, build, and implement value-added HR strategies and solutions 
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues; ensuring compliance to company practices and state and federal employment laws; including investigating employee issues and recommending appropriate action
  • Act as an internal consultant to managers and employees providing coaching and advice on a range of organizational issues; including career coaching and professional development
  • Support managers through the mid-year and annual performance review cycles through education and training to ensure performance differentiation 
  • Manage the activities involved in the design, preparation, delivery and needs assessment of training and development programs for managers and employees
  • Determine company needs and develop content for new hire orientation, leadership development, career management, interpersonal skills and communication training
  • In addition to the above responsibilities the following key initiatives will be a focus in the first 3 months:
    • Reinforcing the launch of company values
    • Partnering with Operations to ensure company culture and environment is maintained and enhanced through move to brand new facility by end of year
    • Support the role out of revised competency model

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant human resources experience in a dynamic environment (preferably in biotech, life sciences, technology, or consulting)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including presentation skills
  • Proven track record of success managing HR related initiatives and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated technical skills and experience with HR systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
