Position Summary:

Are you looking to get in on the ground floor and help steer the University of Alaska Human Resources (UA HR) Office into the future? The newly streamlined UA HR Office is looking for a dynamic leader to build and shape the talent acquisition team. The UA Director of Talent Acquisition will lead the team in best practices that will increase the university's attraction and attainment of diverse, highly qualified, and mission-centered leaders and employees.


Formulate or revise a Talent Acquisition vision and strategy in partnership with the HR team and leadership. Proactive management of recruitment metrics, set goals and measures, report on progress, prepare and present monthly and quarterly reports/presentations. Create and measure/analyze the talent acquisition process to increase efficiency while improving the quality of hire through best practices. Establish effective partnerships with universities, networking forums, and industry-related associations. Be a key partner and expert in the implementation of selecting recruitment and other talent acquisition software (i.e. background check vendor, etc). Oversee talent acquisition and recruiting operations. Evaluate performance and be a mentor and coach to staff to drive and deliver results. Provide thoughtful leadership and participate as part of a leadership team in developing and building our employee brand and highlight it to attract the best candidates. Lead Full-cycle recruitments of Director level and Executive roles as needed. Direct, develop, and execute the on-going management of compensation and classification for all university employees. Manage multiple projects to include key human resources initiatives in addition to all staff, faculty, and executive compensation and classification. Perform other duties as assigned.

You and your team will lead consulting systems and processes for university-wide talent acquisition. This position will collaborate with HR leaders of each department to identify and implement talent management tools, systems, and processes, including recruiting and selection technology, talent strategy, succession planning strategy, etc. In this role, you will serve as a strategic advisor, functional expert, and thoughtful partner on key talent acquisition, system implementation and maintenance, and retention strategies. This position will also direct, develop and execute on-going compensation and classification management for all UA employees.

Demonstrated ability to understand and lead compensation best practices
Experience in recruitments
Knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices that support organizational best practices and compliance
Ability to interpret applicable state and federal employment law
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook 
Ability to manage multiple, complex, on-going projects simultaneously to implementation; ability to plan, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities
Experience managing external partners and vendor relationships
Ability to effectively build and manage processes, tools, and systems
Ability to translate ideas into clear written and visual materials/communications
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proactive and solutions-oriented
Must be skilled at identifying and proactively addressing problems or potential risks
Must have organizational and follow-up skills
Exercise high-level attention to detail to effectively complete tasks
Must be able to analyze problems and develop strategies for resolution
Must be able to prioritize workload independently and meet deadlines under stressful situations
Must be flexible and able to work in an environment of change
Must be able to foster a collaborative team environment and build relationships
Must be able to recommend actions for improvements to current processes

Required Experience

Minimum of five years of leadership in Human Resources, Business or related activities that demonstrate the aptitude and competence to provide change management with university talent acquisition to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Demonstrated experience in process improvement leadership and changes.

Typical Education and Training

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Professional in Human Resources (PHR, SPHR) certification preferred.
