Position Summary: The Training Specialist will organize, facilitate, and deliver year-round training and recognition programs for university staff and faculty, including administrative, supervisory, technical, and management level staff.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and effectively conducts year-round training on various skills, policy, and compliance areas.
  • Researches and identifies where training is needed through department assessments, surveys, interviews, and communication with managers, HR team members and various campus leaders.
  • Evaluates and modifies existing training programs and offers suggestions for improvement.
  • Designs and drafts new training materials and programs.
  • Collaborates with outside consultants to deliver training as needed.
  • Administers and maintains records for required compliance trainings.
  • Facilities delivery of training such as working with Media Services and HR Coordinator to set up needed equipment; scheduling training times; making room reservations; requesting catering as needed; and preparing and distributing training materials and handouts.
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development.
  • Serves as chair for professional development and enrichment trainings held either as a conference or as various programs throughout the year.
  • Provides support to HR team by providing event support for the annual conferences, benefits fair, including coordination of facilitators, communications, registration and materials, and onsite support.
  • Facilitates New Staff Orientations and coordinates with Recruitment Coordinator and HR Coordinator with inviting new staff members, facilitators, and preparing materials for the day.
  • Assists with tracking training related invoices, expenses and preparing budget reports using Excel.
  • May occasionally serve as backup to other HR team members as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of experience in training or a related field highly desired
  • Familiarity with Human Resources topics and operations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and a variety of multimedia training platforms
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to organize, analyze and prioritize
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to operate efficiently and remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to handle changing priorities with relative ease
  • Ability to problem solve within a fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to convey positive and professional attitude; support and contribute to the success and development of colleagues
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

Compensation and Benefits: Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
