Student Transportation, Inc is seeking a Vice President of Compensation and Benefits. The position will work with and report into senior management but contribute to and form a key part of the HR function. Alongside implementing the salary, benefits and rewards policies within the company, the incumbent will ensure these programs support the business objectives and meet all legal requirements.

The continual evaluation of a company’s compensation and benefits packages, including base pay, incentive pay, health and welfare benefits, and 401(k) plans is a fundamental part of this role. Incumbent will be expected to manage budgets and understand company initiatives and business profitability. The position is based in Wall, NJ.

Vice President of Compensation and Benefits responsibilities:
• Design compensation packages and bonus programs that align with the company’s strategic plan;
• Ensure salaries and benefits comply with the current legislation involving human rights and pay equity;
• Identify trends and implement new practices to engage and motivate employees;
• Conduct research on employee satisfaction (e.g. using surveys and quantitative data);
• Renew our compensation plans with monetary and non-monetary benefits based on employee needs;
• Keep track of prevailing pay rates and make sure we offer competitive compensation plans;
• Draft job descriptions, job analyses and classifications;
• Structure compensation in ways that will yield the highest value for the organization;
• Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of employee benefit programs;
• Track compensation and benefits benchmarking data.

Vice President of Compensation and Benefits skills and competencies:
• Highly commercial and able to align reward policy to business objectives;
• Excellent project management skills;
• High degree of analytical skills;
• Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables



• Candidate ideally comes from a business, HR, payroll or finance background; 
• Five or more years of managerial experience and a bachelor’s degree is required;
• Senior level experience as a Compensation and Benefits leader is preferred;
• Hands-on experience with HRIS or payroll software;
• Knowledge of building compensation packages and bonus programs for various departments and seniority levels;
• Excellent understanding of job evaluation and job analysis systems;
• Good analytical skills;
• Familiarity with labor legislation;
• Experience with employee satisfaction surveys;
• Experience working with labor unions and the benefits and compensation requirements of collective bargaining agreements.
